Police detonate ‘bottle bombs’ at Messiah College
Upper Allen Township police detonated several bottle bombs — homemade explosive devices — that had been left in an outdoor courtyard at Messiah College early today.
One of the bombs apparently exploded before police got there about 2 a.m., but no one was injured or property damaged.
Bottle bombs are made using a bottle and other ingredients which cause it to expand and suddenly burst. Though the devices may not appear to be harmful, they can cause injury by someone handling one or being too close when it explodes, police said. Police advise people not pick up bottles containing unidentified substances.
Anyone with information about the bombs at Messiah can call police at 717-238-9676 or through the department’s anonymous tip line at 717-591-3790.
