Polk, Seminole have state’s fastest growing 2-year colleges
Polk and Seminole counties are home to Floridas fastest growing two-year colleges, according to a study by Community College Week.
The publication recently released a national ranking of community colleges and state colleges with enrollments of 10,000 or more. Only two Central Florida schools made the Top 50 list, which was limited to public institutions.
Enrollment at Polk State College, which ranks 12th in the country for growth, has jumped 12 percent from 9,437 students during the fall semester of 2009 to 10,589 during fall, 2010.
Seminole State Colleges enrollment rose 10 percent during the same time period from 16,417 students to 18,028. It ranks 23rd in the nation for growth.
St. Petersburg College ranks 33rd while Broward College ranks 38th. Pasco-Hernando Community College took 46th place.
