Rewarding children who beat the odds
An award ceremony to recognise the achievements of young people in care or leaving care took place last night.
Dozens of youngsters were invited to the evening at the Mercure Leicester City Hotel.
Guests including former Apprentice contestant Melody Hossaini. Lord Mayor, Coun Robert Wann, was on hand to give prizes to those nominated for achievements in school, voluntary work and giving back to the community.
Among those who received an award was Phil Fuller, 20.
He has been in care since the age of 10, living with two foster families during that time. He says he is proud of what he has been able to achieve despite difficulties growing up. Phil is now studying for a BTEC in Health and Social Care at Leicester College.
He said: “I want to go to university to study social care so that I can give something back to people like me.
“I know how hard it can be growing up in difficult circumstances.”
